a long, long, long, long time ago, dien tried to teach me how to tie a tie. he tried to teach me with this twenty-dollar tie (that had little mopeds on it haha) at urban outfitters. anywho, that's not the point. the point is, i didn't learn. a few weeks later i got two ties at $1.99 apiece at goodwill and googled "how to tie a tie." my ties had been sitting in my closet for the longest time since then. but today was the social debut of my new learned skill at work.
Context: ~8:30am in the kitchen. breakfast hour conversation with coworker.
Me: what's for breakfast?
Efem (coworker): a piece of bread. how's everything?
Me: good. you like my tie? [laughing my semi-fake morning laugh]
Efem: haha, yeah. is that a new thing? (or i think he said "outfit," i'm not too sure)
Me: uh yeah, guess how much i got it for.
Efem: for free.
Me: no.
Efem: two bucks.
Me: dollar-ninety-nine. i got it at goodwill. it doesn't look too bad.
Efem: uh no, it doesn't. it's nice.
Context: ~11:45am in my cubicle. pre-lunch random visit from one of the PEs, who happened to notice my tie.
Morgan: is david coming today?
Me: yeah, he's coming at one.
Morgan: is that david's tie?
Me: [laughing my fake laugh] uh no, i got it at goodwill.
Morgan: okay, okay. [laughing his old man asian laugh. i swear he looks like somebody's dad!]
overall, it wasn't too bad a social debut. i've worn my red tie to work once before today, but i was too sick and had gone home, so it was hardly a social debut at all.
