It's a great Saturday! Summer is just around the corner, I can feel it and I'm certainly acting like it. I went to sleep at 3:30 am last night. But, no worries, I was not studying, I was watching Arrested Development. Yum.
I got up to a sunny sunny day at noon and went on my first bike ride with a fellow CEE. We were out on our mountain bikes along the Huron River for a short chat and ride of ~5 miles out and back. It was a super chill and we stopped to look at birds, the dam, and anything at all. We also stopped at bridal boutique on the way back and it was kinda awkward since we were the only ones with mud splattered legs. I was very afraid of walking too close to the dresses. Also, those dresses look like they only fit women who are unrealistically tall. I mean, even while being headless, the manikins looked like they were at least 5' 10". With a head, they'd be over 6', no problem.
On the other hand, the cheese in my mac and cheese is not melting the way I want it to. It's more like chunky cheese and mac.

My Lazy Two Cents
I read this article at work yesterday, and i thought, wow...good thing america isn't doing it or i'd be, i dunno, probably packing my bags now. it's probably not a bad thing cuz you have to look out for your own people first (who were in your country first), but i think they really should just do it like Spain. people are getting sent home now, but at least they'll let them come back after a few years. it's not like a life sentence, you know.

Blargh.
I'm almost done with the semester. This past weekend was intense with work since I had one project due on Monday and one on Tuesday. Well after spending countless hours at school and then presenting my projects (I hate public speaking!), I spent all of yesterday being very relaxed only doing about 1 hour of school work at 11:30 pm. It was great, I didn't even go to campus! Oh, except I did make a quick trip to Central but for work, not school stuff.
Relaxing is fun! Kenneth and I spent most of the day together which is on the rarer side of things and we even watched a movie (Super Size Me) which made me want to exercise.
We also bought a slab of salmon from the grocery store. I want to make nigiri sushi but I doubt we have the right cut of salmon and I don't want to get sick from eating uncooked meat.
Now, I have to do work and I am being so unproductive at the library because I can't concentrate!

Sunny Day!
Today's weather has been incredibly great in the mid 60's. Check out the weekend! Even better (Except Sunday it goes back to being sucky).
This unexpected sunshine is amazing. Everyone has their windows open while driving, people are lounging around in the grassy areas of campus and kicking soccer balls. I went down to Central Campus where the cool kids are and it was almost like the movies with college kids hanging out with each other on the front porch and tons of people just chilling everywhere. It's quite the change from yesterday. It's the first day in a long time that I don't have to put on a scarf when I'm biking!

40 Days, 40 Nights
My 40 Days, 40 Nights will be over in less than 20 hours, and i will have fulfilled my seasonal Catholic obligation. But what does it really mean to me? Am I a better person now? Have I become a more responsible Catholic? Should I even call myself that? Or am I just pretending/experimenting/hiding? The truth is, I don't really know.
My Catholic friends said they gave up meat (only on Fridays) for Lent. It's the most standard, most generic form of this Lent-thing-sacrifice, but I've always thought it fake and effortless. I mean, doesn't Lent mean making a sacrifice (I'm guessing to give you a feel of how it was like to be crucified, etc) and doesn't "sacrifice" mean exerting some kind of effort to give up a little comfort? My point is, not eating meat once a week is barely a sacrifice. It's not even hard. You could just go ahead and substitute shrimp or you could just eat more sushi---alternatives that are actually more expensive, and therefore defeats the whole purpose of "giving up a little comfort."
I'm not judging because who am I to judge, right? You could even argue that when I decided to give up candy and chocolate in all forms, I was just trying to lose some vanity pounds. (But I really did lose ~4 lbs) Or when I gave up facebook, it was just a lame excuse for me not to go on it because what's the point? I had nothing exciting planned out, which would inevitably lead to my lack of facebook activity. Maybe all I wanted was to justify my lack of fb activity so people wouldn't think I had a very mundane life and should just die a painful death. Or when I said I wouldn't consume any alcohol, maybe I was just trying to heal my liver a little and because no one, at that time, had asked me to go drinking.
If you ask me what I learned from this experience, I'll tell you I'm too vain. Maybe I'm just too vain to even make a real, legitimate sacrifice.
But you should know that I failed the alcohol sacrifice (see post from a while back). And this is making me feel a little bad sometimes. A friend of mine said she was proud of me for giving up alcohol for Lent because most people would just give up meat like her. And then on the same night that she said it, I got drunk. So much for trying, right?
Now, ten dollars worth of candy is sitting ten feet away and it's waiting for my celebratory candy-binging session at midnight. And to think that everything that I called "sacrifice" will only come to this, it's almost shameful. I really shouldn't even try anymore.
So f--- it.

Some Highlights
highlights of my week:
- i use bare essentials powder. if you've bought one of those kits, you'd know that when you run out of medium tan, you will resort to using tan, even though it doesn't quite match your skin tone, because you don't want to waste it. i ran out of medium tan so naturally, i've been using tan. a coworker asked me, "have you been out in the sun, you look really tan?" i'm thinking, "uh-oh...it's my make up lol." i reply, "i tan easily." another coworker, "even indoors?" (referring to in the office). i reply, "no, but on my drive home, i'm exposed to the sun". i'm cracking up inside because my make up is making me look super tan.
- when i wore my watermelon shoes to work. they were a hit! i went to a lunch bbq that day, and everyone kept telling me they wanted to cut up my shoes and take a bite!
- my watercolor painting class. it was so much fun! i painted this:
it was a lot of fun and i feel super inspired to get all artsy!
